Products that stone quarries produce will be discussed here. Plans for quarrying must include all operational aspects of mining. This includes overburden and mineral handling, storage, haul road placement, volumes involved, equipment selection, reclamation and economics. Consideration must be given to annual production; physical, environmental and permitting restrictions limits of mining, ultimate depth and etc. Desired benching configuration; location of the groundwater table and other impacting factors are also important.
The importance of all these factors being designed appropriately goes beyond the boundary of the quarry and the cost of production. For example, inaccurate calculation of the size of machinery required can easily lead to benches. The benches are being worked in the order that the material is most easily won rather than the optimum for consistent quality of raw material. Once material is removed from the quarry face it begins its journey to the raw plant. And then to the factory and the customer. If an adequate block model is known before it is dispatched from the face, then all the tasks further down the line will be easier. Comparing to the situation that material is of unknown composition until the raw meal for the cement kiln has been made.
Quarries principally produce sand and gravel and crushed rock for construction. These materials are usually described as aggregates. Some materials produced by quarries includes Gypsum, Salt, Potash, Coal, Chemical grade Limestone, Common Clays, China Clay, Kaolin, Ball Clays, Silica Sand. Thus, quarries are often associated with process plants. The most important of these process plants are ready-mixed-concrete plants, coating plants to produce asphalt and bituminous road-making materials, cement and lime burning kilns, concrete block and pipe works, brick works, pottery works and plaster factories.
A stone quarry typically produces the following products:
